Context Tab
The Context tab captures the background information and analysis that shapes your strategic plan. It provides a structured space for your executive summary, supporting documents, strategic issues, and SWOT analysis.
Executive Summary
The Executive Summary section provides a high-level overview of your plan’s purpose and direction.
- Rich text editor for detailed formatting
- Click “Edit” to enter editing mode, then “Save” to confirm changes
- Use “Clear” to reset the content if needed
Documents
The Documents section stores references to external resources that support your plan.
Document Fields

Document Types
Documents can be classified as one of the following types:
- Report - Formal reports and assessments
- Study - Research studies and findings
- Analysis - Analytical documents
- Policy - Policy documents and guidelines
- Framework - Reference frameworks
- Survey - Survey results and data
- Statistics - Statistical data and reports
- SharePoint - Documents stored in SharePoint
- Other - Any other supporting documents
Managing Documents

Add a document
Click “Add” in the Documents section and fill in the name, URL, and type.

Edit a document
Click on a document to open its details modal, where you can update any field.

Reorder documents
Drag and drop documents to change their display order.

Open a document
Click the link icon to open the document URL in a new tab.
Strategic Issues
Strategic issues are the key challenges or opportunities your plan needs to address. They serve as the bridge between your situational analysis and your orientations.
Issue Fields

Create an issue
Click “Add” and enter a title and description for the strategic issue.

Link to orientations
In the issue details modal, connect the issue to one or more orientations in your plan. This relationship is tracked on the Plan Dashboard’s Integrity Card.

Reorder issues
Drag and drop to prioritize your strategic issues.
Situational Analysis (SWOT)
The Situational Analysis section uses the SWOT framework to assess your organization’s current position.
SWOT Categories
Internal positive factors that give your organization an advantage.
Examples: experienced staff, strong reputation, established processes.
Internal negative factors that put your organization at a disadvantage.
Examples: limited budget, outdated technology, staff turnover.
External positive factors that your organization could leverage.
Examples: new funding sources, demographic changes, policy shifts.
External negative factors that could negatively impact your organization.
Examples: budget cuts, regulatory changes, competition.

Managing SWOT Entries
- Add entries by clicking “Add” and selecting a category
- Filter by category using the dropdown filter to focus on one area at a time
- Search entries by keyword using the search bar
- Reorder entries within their category via drag and drop
- Edit or delete by clicking on an entry to open its details modal
Visibility
Each section in the Context tab (Executive Summary, Documents, Strategic Issues, Situational Analysis) can be individually toggled on or off in Plan Settings. If all Context sections are disabled, the Context tab will automatically hide from the plan navigation.
Best Practices
- Start with SWOT before writing strategic issues — your situational analysis should inform what issues you identify
- Link every strategic issue to at least one orientation for a complete plan integrity score
- Keep documents organized by type so team members can quickly find reference materials
- Write the executive summary last after all other plan elements are in place
- Review context regularly as external factors change over time
